Despite a very early start & some dodgy instructions when we got to the Excel Centre we had a very good day!
Our initial enthusiasm was hampered by the 45 minute wait to get in though which was a bit annoying, but it's an unfortunate side effect of Salute being so popular I suppose?
I bought the following:
lots of GCT Studios Temple of Ro-Kan Bushido figures
a Tau Codex from Lesleys Bits Box
some green crystals from Wargames Emporium
some painted 25mm Dr Who villains from Alternative Armies (Davros, Daleks, Cybermen, Sea Devils & a Yeti!)
a 28mm warrior figure from Ax Faction for my Khorne army
a 28mm monster from Maxmini which are brilliant resin figures!
There must have been close to a couple of hundred traders present of whom some are well known & many aren't. There were also as many demonstration game with none being poor quality. There was a brilliant Jason & the Argonauts game involving very large almost foot high figures. Very Harryhausen!
Oshiro Model Terrain also put on an impressive demo game with brilliant oriental houses.
The 36' long Hammer's Slammers game was also an excellent spectacle.
It was also great to see the Otherworld hero boxed sets that I'd been looking forward to seeing. At the moment there is a box of 12 Humans & 12 Humanoid adventurers. Some Dwarfs & Lady types are to follow in the next few months. I will have to buy some of these figures one day!
One thing I did notice about the traders selling figures as that every single one of them had beautifully painted figures on display which drew your attention to them immediately. A good sales pitch I suppose?
Salute as a show is of course very impressive, but it took us 3 1/2 hours to walk around it the first time which to be truthful is a bit much for me. It's certainly not a show I could go to every year. What is good however are the traders we simply don't get to see, especially the international ones which make the effort to come & generally speak better English than what I does.
I'm sure I missed many things as there was too much to take in. The Dreadball cheerleaders didn't help with my concentration either!!
A good show, if a long day & some good company which can't be bad.
