I went to Wayland's Forge again today where we played Uncharted Seas. Antony & Owen both bought their Dwarven fleets & I of course used the mighty Orcs!
As with most dice based rules the aim of the game is to roll high. Sadly (& rather unusually for me!) I didn't come anywhere near to rolling high. Owen can prove this as he has the photos!
Perhaps splitting my fleet wasn't the best idea, but you've got to give it a go. I lost all my ships & the Dwarven fleets both shot at each other & didn't do that much damage to each other. Antony was declared the winner as he had one more cruiser than Owen.
There was a second game in which Ady (WF senior staff) used my Orcs, Matt used Antony's fleet & Phil (WF less senior staff) used Owen's fleet. A far more entertaining game all round really as all 3 could actually roll decent dice. I'm sure Owen will post his photos & give a little battle report, but suffice to say it was an Orc victory by the narrowest of narrow margins!!
As most of you know Uncharted Seas is a decent little game. There are a few niggles with the rules, but nothing major & I believe an updated version may be out later?

The story of the day... Scott starts as he means to continue. A CHALLENGER APPEARS! These are mine. And the die on the right is also reading a mighty 1. Stung by this challenge to his supremacy, Scott responds in the only way he knows... Well done that man. Ship pics later when I sort them out and crop them a bit.

Scott, that's just typical. Fancy keeping all your bad dice luck for a game away from the club !

Photos from Game #1 - Myself the red Dwarf ironclads, Antony the silver Dwarf ironclads, Scott the Orcs. Clan Cooper pose for pre-battle regatta and parade. Scott's Orcs formed up. Note that Scott's cruisers cunningly disguise themselves as much bigger ships. Steaming past the central island. My frigates/monitors engage the lighter elements of Scott's fleet. Modesty forbids me from saying which side got sent to Davy Jones's locker at the bottom of Tipton Cut. A CHALLENGER APPEARS!! (Again). Clan Chilton sighted across the central island. Scott wisely chooses to split his forces and sails off towards Antony's Dwarves. The hard pounding gives us some problems with our optical gear.

Game #2 - Aidy has Scott's Orcs, Matt has Antony's Dwarves and Phil has my Dwarves. Aidy demonstrates clear home advantage by showing the Stourbridge boys how it's done. More Orcs. Orc Pedalos attempt to pedal around the island and outflank Clan Saunders. Not visible - a drunken Freddy Flintoff falling off the back. Engagement. Red triangles and little orange dice denote hull damage. General overview of the second battle. Aidy's Orcs are running with the wind, much of Clan Saunders is hiding off the left side of the photograph. Three-way melee. Matt is, in WW1 air wargame parlance, "tailing" the red cruisers perfectly. Oh dear... Antony's battleship captured by Orcs.

There's a rumour going round the club, which will, undoubtedly, in the fullness of time and the constant re-telling, become an urban legend, that Scott can roll '1's anytime he wants to ;D

If someone could compose a suitable ballad or even full blown opera of my heroic dice rolling then that would be great!
It is true that I can roll any number I want to. Several hours every night practising dice rolling is essential to keep the skills & mysticism up!! It is a complete myth though that when I roll dice I only seen green numbers on a black screen. It's more heliotrope on mauve which gives you a bad headache after 10 minutes or so.
As Owen speculated at Wayland's yesterday you generally roll better dice if you roll just a couple rather than 15! They just don't want to stand out from the crowd I guess? Plus it's a fact that dice can get jealous!!
Nurse, nurse can I have my special pills now?

Some cracking photos there Owen. Clearly the slightly out of focus one was when the Dwarven cameraman was laughing too hard at the feeble Orc fire control!

Less senior member of staff?!?!?! Cheeky blighter!
Anyhoo, a great game which we all enjoyed. By jingo that second game was close. I should also point out that I captured the Orc Battleship when it tried to board my Dwarf Battleship. The Orcs lost rightly so, but the Dwarfs had one crew remaining. He died the following turn when trying to put out a fire.
Really nice photos though Owen.

hanks for tidying up the HTML. Your web-fu is stronger.
With regards to the sci-fi game, I was looking at the stuff on the web about that on Sunday. If it plays as well as Uncharted Seas and is as much fun Ady and myself are definitely interested!
