I think that there is more to this new constitution than people are reading and understanding.
I have had several long email discussions with Kevin and the committee about the new proposals and we have failed to reach any agreement over major issues like: opening more than one account, closure of club ability to make grants and association with other war games groups etc.
Why do I object so strongly/ Firstly over the course of our correspondence it has emerged that this has been constructed as a legal document and will if accepted become 'law. Secondly, there are many points that I believe will cost the club money and even more that will work against members rights as they exist at present.
To be fair Kevin and the committee have made a few minor concessions, such as not charging no members £2.50 to attend the club. (if anyone wants to plough through the whole tortured series of emails I am willing to forward) However, on my greatest objections there has been no progress other than attempts to re-write the new constitution to erradicate access to formal objections.
As I rather imagine most members merely glanced at the document and then threw it away I am sure the majority have no idea how the club could be changed by its acceptance.
This is not a personal attack on the committee, but rather on the whole concept. while we may have nothing to fear from this committee's use of such a constitution, it is unlikely they will remain committee members for ever so what happens if you give such formal powers to some mad fool like ME?
We have managed perfectly well as a club without all this nonsense and formality and I see no reason to change now. Having read the proposals in great detail I can still see nothing that will prevent the 'boggy men' from other clubs taking us over, rather the opposite. I feel rather that it would help them, especially if we have cash stashed away in: off shore accounts, banks, building societies, Swiss Bank etc. I believe we would be a very nice target for the 'boggy men'.
