Coming out in July. Might hold fire on my Night Goblins project until then, rather than mess about learning a version of a complex game that I won't play after the summer.

Bunch of absolute ******* at GW said there wouldn't be a new version of Warhammer Fantasy for ages!!!!
Still I'll download the changes for nowt off their website probably a while after it's released.

If they've got any braincells between them, the biggest change will be a re-order of the contents so that stuff is in the right place instead of putting stuff in a completely different section to where it is needed.

Well that's getting over the recession the "Evil Empire" way, just sc**w the cash out of us idiots that keep standing for it. If everyone said "Get stuffed to GW, we aren't going to pay (enter amount between £30-50 here)!", every year or so they might finally realise that people will only take so much. Having said that they'll have their captive kiddy customers that clog the shops up in the holidays and weekends to buy the new book (or rather badger their parents/grandparents to).

That's settled then Owen. You buy the new 8th ed rules & photocopy them for the rest of us!!
I bet I've just caused us to get a cease & desist order haven't I? No sense of humour at Space Nazi base camp!

That's settled then Owen. You torrent the new 8th ed rules & print them for the rest of us!! Fixed that for you Scott. Truth be told if it comes with two armies of the size and quality of WFB7 then I will buy the big box and probably flog off one of the armies. Rumour is suggesting they will be Chaos and Empire. According to wikipedia (so it must be true...) WFB7 was released on 9th Sep 2006 so with a July launch date for WFB8 the current version will have been around for less than 4 years. That seems an excessively short time with the 5 year cycle being more usual for GW. Glad I didn't splash out on the big hardback book now. BTW Scott have managed to knock up a perfectly legal and valid list for Border Patrol with a mighty 101 figures in it. Probably going for the 82 figure list though . Both lists have 3 points left over to take another Night Goblin but you can't do it because the infantry units are all maxed out at 25 strong and BP doesn't allow larger ones than that.

Well done that man!
The GW "starter" packs Black Reach & Skull Pass have been excellent value (for GW) so that might be a good call.
101 figures in a 500 point game would be most entertaining. 10 Chaos Warriors with command & Khorne mark come to 220 points. I suspect I may be outnumbered somewhat!!?
Personally I'd let you use your extra Goblin!

Another edition?
Right that's it, I'm going to go into Evil Empire and brain the first employee I see (hopefully Tom) with the 7th edition book I got for Christmas!

You should suggest they publish the rules in a lose leaf binder (over 42 weeks, issue 1 only 99p with free binder) then you could just update by purchasing the altered pages. They certainly cost enough that I would think having a binder would not increase the overall purchase price by much ;D

A very altruistic view there Dave & I hope one day you go on to be CEO of GW!!
I think they'll stick to changing (clarifying) half a dozen rules here & there & sell a new book for £40 though every 4 years!
As they've changed most of the army books fairly recently I imagine there won't be an earth shattering changes. Although it would mean redoing the army books if they did & making yet more money. Cynical me?

It works for them, and the regular army list book model has been used by WAB & Feild of Glory.
Warhammer & 40k isn't meant for 20 year wargamers its meant for 13 year olds who have 3 years in and then get out of it as they try to be cool.
If they wanted to be cool they should get a War of Spanish Succession Daish army - but what do 16 year olds know.

Where does the army of Da come from then Steve ? My book on the War of Spanish Succession doesn't seem to cover them ! Neither can I find Da in my Atlas, can you please clarify !

Da is clearly an Orc (sorry Ork!) phrase & there must have been greenskin types present at the War of Spanish Succession!!
Good points though Steven on the reasons behind changing the rules every 4 or 5 years. I'd never given it any thought!
